This principle was established by B.Gilbert in 1968 and the circuit is known as Gilbert’s cell. The operation of BJT and its working as a differential amplifier is explained in brief. Referring to the operation of the differential amplifier as a two quadrant multiplier, the operation of a four quadrant multiplier was analyzed.
