in polarimetric C-band synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data. The
objective is to identify the most powerful multipolarization SAR
descriptors for mineral oil spill versus biogenic slick discrimina-
tion. A systematic comparison of eight well-known multipolariza-
tion features is provided. The analysis is performed on data that
we collected during a large-scale oil spill exercise at the Frigg fi eld
situated northwest of Stavanger, in June 2011. Controlled oil spills
and simulated look-alikes were simultaneously captured within
fi ne quad-polarization Radarsat-2 acquisitions during this exper-
iment. Multipolarization features derived only the copolar-
ized complex scattering coeffi cients are explored. We fi nd that
the two most powerful multipolarization features extracted from
this data set are the geometric intensity, measuring the combined
intensity based on the determinant of the coherency mat

Description: This paper generalizes the well-known displacedphase-center antenna (DPCA) method for efficient ground moving target indication (GMTI) with a two-channel synthetic aperture radar (SAR) to any multichannel SAR/GMTI radars independent
of the number of receive channels. This processing method called extended DPCA (EDPCA) is derived in this paper and is applied to data acquired with the Canadian RADARSAT-2 satellite. The expected GMTI performance of RADARSAT-2 after
EDPCA processing is compared to results achieved with measured RADARSAT-2 data recorded during several trials in order to validate the developed theory.
