This algorithm proves particularly useful for gene finding、as CpG islands (regions of DNA with a larger than expected number of adjacent cytosine and guanine nucleotides) tend to appear near the promoters of some 40 of mammalian genes. The automation of this process is critical in gene research because CpG islands are impossible to locate by simply looking at a strand of DNA (as they may cover several hundred bases and their C/G content may be only slightly higher than the expected value). The algorithm is fast、robust、and it includes a wealth of good routines (such as loading FASTA files into VB). Ive tried to include comments where applicable.
