This paper presents rotor field orientated control (RFOC) and direct torque control (DTC) of the five-phase induction motor, and their fully digital implementation based on the TI s TMS320C32 DSP. RFOC and DTC, two important motor control methods, are extensively used in induction motor drives.

In this paper, a dq model based on transformation theory for five-phase induction machines is presented. A detailed implementation of an indirect-type five-phase field-orientation control including the hysteresis-type pulsewidth modulation (PWM) current regulator is described. A method for continuous and disturbance-free operation of a five-phase field-orientedcontrolled induction motor drive with complete loss of one, two, or even three legs of the inverter or motor phases is described. A complete analysis and computer simulation of this control technique is included.

In this paper, direct torque control (DTC) of fivephase induction motor is developed. A novel DTC scheme is proposed, where fast torque response with low ripple in the stator flux and torque of five-phase induction motor can be achieved. In comparison with DTC for three phase induction motor, the five-phase DTC system has thirty-two space voltage vectors, which provide greater flexibility in selecting the inverter switching states thus accomplishing a more precise control of the stator flux and torque. Simulation and experimental results clearly demonstrate a better dynamic and steady state performance with DTC for five-phase induction motor, which suggest that the combination of DTC with multi-phase induction motor have a great practical prospect in motor drives.

This paper presents an application of rotor field oriented control (RFOC) to a five-phase induction motor with the combined fundamental and third harmonic currents. Based on the motor model developed in a new d,q, n reference frame, the complete theory and modeling of rotor field oriented control of the five-phase induction motor are established. Specifically, investigation is made to improve power density and output torque of the five-phase induction motor by injecting third harmonic of currents. By the proper dynamical adjustment and steady state compensation, the rotor field oriented control of the five-phase induction motor not only achieves a high drive performance, but also controls the fundamental and third harmonic flux and torque to generate the desired nearly rectangular air-gap flux. Both simulation and experimental results further verify the theoretical analysis and demonstrate the feasibility and practical value of the proposed five-phase induction motor drive.-This paper presents an application of rotor field oriented control (RFOC) to a five-phase induction motor with the combined fundamental and third harmonic currents.
