2) The prototype is implemented on MATLAB 7.0 and revised in MATLAB 7.10.0
3) The backgrounds of input images have to be purely ‘black’ and the details of the content(palms, fingers) must be clear for accurate recognition of the ASL.
4) A reduced ASL dataset is used. The dataset contains the following ASL gestures: "b,c,h,i,o,l,y".

Description: This Project is confined to identification of hand postures and to establish a man-machine interaction. The hand region in the image is detected and the number of active fingers is determined. In this approach, the input which is an image or a frame a video can be obtained web camera or any other camera. This color image is converted into binary image and preprocessed and the number of fingers is counted using scanning method in MATLAB. This is a simple yet efficient approach.
