The degradations are as a result of both the low bit rate speech coding and channel transmission errors. A Distributed Speech Recognition (DSR) system overcomes these problems by eliminating the speech channel and instead using an error protected data channel to send a parameterized representation of the speech, which is suitable for recognition. The processing is distributed between the terminal and the network. The terminal performs the feature parameter extraction, or the front-end of the speech recognition system. These features are transmitted over a data channel to a remote "back-end" recognizer. The end result is that the transmission channel does not affect the recognition system performance and channel invariability is achieved.

The detailed schemes of parameter extraction, quantization, coding, and speech synthesis are introduced. In addition, a 1.6kb/s speech coding/decoding system based on this algorithm is constructed with language C. By subjective evaluation, it is concluded that the performance of this system approaches or corresponds to that of 2.4kb/s MELP algorithm.

Section 2.1 treats the subject of quantisation and coding. In section 2.2 a description of speech production and speech sounds is given. Coders based on linear prediction can be considered as being based on a simple speech production model. This model is explained in section 2.3. Section 2.4 describes various speech coding algorithms and techniques. Low bit-rate speech coders are important in many critical communication systems such as military, police, fire departments, homeland security and other first responders. The need for elimination, reduction of the redundancy or irrelevant information from the analog signals gave birth to an area of speech coding. The main goal of speech coding is to represent speech with the minimum number of bits by maintaining its intelligibility and perceptual quality. In today’s wireless communication system there are many factors to be considered but the most constraint is the bandwidth and power. In this regard, ‘Linear predictive coding(LPC)’ is an effctive method of speech coding at a low bit-rate. # Features ** Analysis/Encoding phase,Synthesis/Decoding phase. **Human voice modelled with all-pole filter. ** LPC parameters(filter coefficients, pitch, gain etc) extraction at the decoding phase. ** Non-overlapping frames of 30 milliseconds in duration # How To Run ** Make sure MATLAB(latest version) is installed ** Put both files(LPC.m with .mp3 file) in the same folder ** Open LPC.m file and run it. ## Comments Different audio (.mp3) files can be coded/decoded by changing the input file name in the code.
