Description: This paper provides an overview of research challenges and opportunities on mm-wave communication in the fifth generation (5G) mobile broadband networks. More specifically, different challenges, i.e. spectrum, propagation channel, cost and energy efficient aspects, the perspective of mm-wave communication are discussed. Furthermore, insights on research
opportunities of mm-wave communication in heterogeneous networks and multi-antenna transceiver technologies are provided.
Based on provided overview, it can be concluded that mm-wave communication is a promising framework for further development and research towards next generation mobile broadband

communications has recently drawn increased
attention to the large amount of underutilized
spectrum in the millimeter-wave frequency bands
as a potentially viable solution for achieving tens
to hundreds of times more capacity compared to
current 4G cellular networks. Historically,

mainly due to concerns regarding short-range

MmWave massive MIMO will differ the conventional

analytical expressions are provided for the asymptotic signal-tointerference-

and downlink, when the number of base station antennas goes
to infinity. Numerical results indicate a fast convergence in the
SINR distribution to its asymptotic equivalence in dense mmWave
networks. A comparison with conventional massive MIMO shows
that mmWave massive MIMO achieves a higher cell throughput

Description: Channel estimation for millimeter-wave (mmWave)
massive MIMO with hybrid precoding is challenging, since the
number of radio frequency (RF) chains is usually much smaller
than that of antennas. To date, several channel estimation schemes
have been proposed for mmWave massive MIMO over narrowband channels, while practical mmWave channels exhibit the
frequency-selective fading (FSF). To this end, this letter proposes
a multi-user uplink channel estimation scheme for mmWave
massive MIMO over FSF channels. Specifically, by exploiting the
angle-domain structured sparsity of mmWave FSF channels, a
distributed compressive sensing (DCS)-based channel estimation
scheme is proposed. Moreover, by using the grid matching pursuit strategy with adaptive measurement matrix, the proposed
algorithm can solve the power leakage problem caused by the
continuous angles of arrival or departure (AoA/AoD). Simulation
results verify that the good performance of the proposed solution.
