This paper introduces linear constellation precoding (LCP) for OFDM transmissions over frequency-selective fading channels. Exploiting the correlation structure of OFDM subchannels, and choosing system parameters properly, we first perform optimal subcarrier grouping to divide the set of correlated subchannels into subsets. Within each subset, a non-redundant constellation-specijic unitary precoder is then designed to achieve maximum multipath diversity and coding gains. While greatly reducing the decoding complexity and simplifiing the LCP design, subcarrier grouping offers optimal perjormance by maximizing multipath diversity and coding gains. In addition, the proposed system does not sacrifice the transmission rate. Analytic evaluation and corroborating simulations reveal its pe$ormance merits.

In this paper, we study Spatial Tomlinson-Harashima Precoding (STHP). We propose a generalization of the original structure of STHP which enables different transmission power per antenna. The main advantage of the new scheme is that it has a scalable structure because, despite of the variable power per transmitter (even if some transmitters are switched off), the precoding structure and its properties are preserved. Next, we formulate the maximum achievable rates problem for GSTHP and solve it numerically. In addition, we show that the problem can be quasi-optimally solved in a closed form in a limit case, or if some approximations are done. The solution is found to be an antenna-selection algorithm with uniform power allocation among the active transmitters. We finally present some simulation results and conclusions.

Abstract—2×2 unitary precoding based on receiver feedback is applied alongside spatial multiplexing at the base station in HSDPA (D-TxAA) when the mobile terminal supports MIMO transmissios [1]. This precoding will influence achievable sumrate of the MIMO channel if it influences the Signal-to- Interference-plus-Noise Ratio (SINR) of streams at the receiver (RX) output. We propose a set of MIMO HSDPA receivers, all based upon a LMMSE chip-level matrix filter (equalizer) front end, and introduce the notion of joint bias for the MIMO chip equalizer. Statistical properties of the spatial model thus obtained are exploited to analyze the performance of proposed MIMO receivers. It is shown that precoding choice depends upon the MIMO receiver and the extent of its impact depends on the MIMO RX.

Antenna arrays will be an important ingredient in millimeter wave (mmWave) cellular systems. A natural application of antenna arrays is simultaneous transmission to multiple users. Unfortunately, the hardware constraints in mmWave systems make it difficult to apply conventional lower frequency multiuser MIMO precoding techniques at mmWave. This paper develops low-complexity hybrid analog/digital precoding for downlink multiuser mmWave systems. Hybrid precoding involves a combination of analog and digital processing that is inspired by the power consumption of complete radio frequency and mixed signal hardware.

Millimeter wave (mmWave) signals experience orders-of-magnitude more pathloss than the microwave signals currently used in most wireless applications. MmWave systems must therefore leverage large antenna arrays, made possible by the decrease in wavelength, to combat pathloss with beamforming gain. Beamforming with multiple data streams, known as precoding, can be used to further improve mmWave spectral efficiency. Both beamforming and precoding are done digitally at baseband in traditional multi-antenna systems.
