The channel modeling work package WP1 of IST-WINNER project provided a Matlab implementation of the WINNER Phase II Model (referred as WIM this onward). The main purpose of the WIM channel models is to generate a radio channel realisations for a link and system level simulations. The implementation is based on the earlier implementations of WINNER II interim model [6], WINNER I (interim) model [3], 3GPP/3GPP2 Spatial Channel Model (SCM) [4] and SCM(E) Extension models. For details concerning the WIM model, please refer to [1]. This document describes the SW implementation structure of WIM, its input/output interface and its functionality. Channel model scenarios and parameters are modified to correspond to IMT.EVAL [7] channel model.

In this thesis a signal level simulator in uplink is implemented according to the physical layer specification of the IMT-2000 WCDMA system. The analytical WCDMA system through the use of linear algebra techniques is shown. Channel model is built on the classical understanding of fading, Doppler spread, delay spread, and incorporate additional concepts such as direction of arrival and antenna array geometry. PN sequence properties and generation are studied. Spreading and scrambling techniques are present. RAKE receiver and multiuser detection are described, and spatial processing in smart antenna are reviewed. A simulation tool in Matlab is developed in this work.

This document describes a MATLAB implementation of the 3GPP Spatial Channel Model (SCM) [3GPP03]. The accompanying MATLAB code implements the system level channel model described in Section 5 of [3GPP03], except the “far scatterer clusters” feature from Section 5.5.2 and the intercell interference feature from Section 5.7. These features were left out of the implementation because they make certain restricting assumptions about the network layout. The current implementation has no built-in assumptions on network geometry and is hence usable for a variety of simulation purposes.

The main goal of this work is to provide a unified theory of QSTBCs for four transmit antennas and one (or more) receive antennas. The thesis consists of two main parts: In the first part we analyze the QSTBCs transmission without any channel knowledge at the transmitter and in the second part we analyze transmission with QSTBCs assuming partial channel state (CSI) information at the transmitter. For both cases, the QSTBCs are studied on spatially correlated and uncorrelated frequency flat MIMO channels applying a Maximum Likelihood receivers as well as a low complexity linear Zero-Forcing receivers. The spatial correlation is modelled by the so-called Kronecker Model. Measured indoor channels are also used in our simulations to show the performance of the QSTBCs in real-world environment

Note that this SCM extension is not associated with the 3GPP working group. It was developed in Workpackage 5 (WP5) of the WINNER1 project [WIN] of the European Union’s 6th Framework Program. Also note that SCME is different to the WINNER interim (WIMi) or final channel model (WIM) corresponding to the WINNER deliverables D5.3 and D5.4, respectively.
