This toolbox distributes processes over matlab workers available over the intranet/internet (SPMD or MPMD parallel model). It is very useful for corsely granular parallelization problems and in the precesence of a distributed and heterogeneus computer enviroment. No need for configuration files ! Cross platforms, cross OS and cross MATLAB versions. Workers can be added to the parallel computation even if it has started. No need of a common file system, all comms are using tcpip connections

The tested technology is the INTEL Hyper Threading on real processors, and the programs are MATLAB scripts for floating points computation. The conclusions of the work concern on the utility and limits of the used approach. The main result is that using virtual processors is a good technique for improving parallel programs not only for memory-based computations, but in the case of massive disk-storage operations too

DNA sequence alignment is the most commonly application in computational biology. It is essential pre-requisite of many other operations in computational biology applications. Optimal alignment for a large scale size DNA sequence dataset is a known example of a time and space consuming. The Smith- Waterman algorithm is a well recognized technique to produce optimal alignment between DNA sequences. In this paper, we present a parallel technique for computing Smith-Waterman algorithm. The implementation is done under a master-worker based distributed memory multiprocessors with Single Program Multiple Data (SPMD) architecture. The MPJ Express, an object oriented Message Passing Interface software is utilized to enable instructions and messages to be exchanged between processors.
