(STATCOM) is used for voltage stability and the
compensation of reactive power. The STATCOM contains an
Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) based voltage
source converter for voltage control and reactive power
compensation. The STATCOM is used to control the reactive
power with the voltage source converter in combination with a
DC voltage source. The values of the DC link capacitor and
battery source were optimized using the Genetic Algorithm
technique and the simulations results for the same were
observed under the inductive as well as capacitive load
conditions. The comparison of voltage compensation for
various conditions show that the performance of STATCOM
tuned with GA was the best and closest to the nominal value of
voltage. The simulation is done in MATLAB for STATCOM
and Voltage Source Converter (VSC).

Considering out of limit voltage in distribution network containing distributed generation(DG),a new method of voltage control is proposed,which is based on sensitivity analysis and consists of comprehensive regulations of outputs of DGs and switching capacitor groups.When out of limit voltage appears,the sensitivity of voltages in each node caused by input reactive power is worked out,with minimum shifts of nodes in system selected to be an objective function and harmony search algorithm adopted as calculating method,then the magnitude of outputs of sources and switching groups is determined comprehensively.Also the performances of voltage control with and without DGs and regulations by voltage sensitivity are compared.This paper deduced sensitivity matrix in cartesian coordinates,and employed IEEE-33 bus system to verify the control strategy,and verified its correctness and effectiveness
