The operating principle of hybrid grating encoder was introduced and the shortcoming of PMSM rotor position detection measure used nowadays was analyzed. The initial rotor position detection of PMSM and the method of motor starting-up based on hybrid grating encoder were proposed in this the paper. The method was implemented by using the experimental hardware platform which takes the DSP as core. The experimental results showed that it could meet the needs of practical use, consequently, starting-up the motor smoothly and successfully.
