IP packets are often sent via Ethernet. The Ethernet device does not recognize 32-bit IP addresses, which transmit the Ethernet packets with 48 MAC addresses. Therefore, the IP drive must convert the IP destination address to the Ethernet network destination address. There is a static or dynamic mapping between these two addresses, and it is usually necessary to look at a table for this mapping. The Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) is the Protocol used to determine these images.
When ARP works, send a packet of Ethernet broadcast with the desired IP address. The destination host (or another system that represents the host) responds with a packet containing IP and Ethernet addresses. The sender caches the address at high speed to save unnecessary ARP communication
