Description: This paper has attempted to help draw the distinction between IEEE 802.15.4 functionality and the ZigBee TM protocol stack. This is highlighted by the fact that typically, IEEE 802.15.4 is implemented in hardware on a transceiver device, whereas ZigBee TM is implemented on a medium-scale microcontroller in addition to the aforementioned transceiver.
