Description: License plate recognition system generally includes license plate location, license plate segmentation and character recognition. And vehicle license plate location is a key stage of license plate recognition system, whose accuracy directly affects license plate recognition system’s performance. This paper studied the key issue, which mainly used color feature combining the texture feature, geometric feature to obtain accurately positioning. The HSV color space and similarity calculation was used to segmented image. Because the vehicle license plate have this property of consecutive beeps in horizontal direction, and line scanning method was used to determine the top and the bottom boundary of vehicle license plate.
