Description: DNP3 (Distributed Network Protocol) is a communication protocol between the system components used in process automation. Its main use is in utilities such as electricity and water companies. Usage in other industries is not common. It is intended for communication between different types of data acquisition and control devices and design. It plays a vital role in the SCADA system, it is through the use of SCADA master station (also known as the control center), remote terminal unit (RTU) and Intelligent Electronic Devices (IED). It is mainly used for communication and a master between RTU or IED. (In line with part of the IEC60870-6), the main station for inter-communication.
