A-single-chip-pulse-oximeter Download
Description: This application report discusses the use of MSP430FG437 microprocessors (MCUs) for non-invasive photoplethysmography design, non-invasive optical plethysmography is also known as pulse oximeter. The pulse oximeter consists of a peripheral probe in conjunction with the MCU showing the oxygen saturation and pulse rate on the LCD display. In this application, the same sensor is used for heart rate monitoring and pulse oximetry. The probe is placed in the surrounding area of the body such as the fingertips, earlobe or nose. The probe consists of two light-emitting diodes (LEDs), one in the visible red spectrum (660 nm) and the other at the infrared spectrum (940 nm). The oxygen content of the body is first measured by measuring the intensity of the light transmitted through each body through the intensity of the body and then calculating the ratio between the two intensities.
