Description: We propose a novel approach for head tracking, which combines particle filters with Isomap. The particle filter works on the low-dimensional embedding of training images. It indexes into the Isomap with its state variables to find the closest template for each particle. The most weighted particle approximates the location of head. We develop a synthetic video sequence to test our technique. is also presented. Face detection is based on a naive Bayes classifier
that classifies an edge-extracted representation of an image. Using

5184 B, which is 2417 times smaller than a comparable statistical
modeling technique, while achieving an 86.6 correct detection
rate under various lighting conditions. Lip feature extraction uses

proposed FPGA system occupies only 15 050 logic cells, or about
six times less than a current comparable FPGA face detection

Description: A content-aware algorithm that enhances dark images, sharpens edges, reveals details in textured regions, and preserves the smoothness of flat regions is proposed. The algorithm produces an ad hoc transformation for each image, adapting the mapping functions to each image’s characteristics to produce the maximum enhancement. We analyze the contrast of the image in the boundary and textured regions, and group the information with common characteristics. These groups model the relations within the image, from which we extract the transformation functions. The results are then adaptively mixed, by considering the human vision system characteristics, to boost the details in the image. Results show that the algorithm can automatically process a wide range of images—e.g., mixed shadow and bright areas, outdoor and indoor lighting, and face images—without introducing artifacts, which is an improvement over many existing methods.

Description: In this paper, we propose a practical method for hardware-
accelerated rendering of the depth image-based representation (DIBR) object,
which is defined in MPEG-4 Animation Framework eXtension (AFX). The
proposed method overcomes the drawbacks of the conventional rendering, i.e. it
is slow since it is hardly assisted by graphics hardware and surface lighting is
static. Utilizing the new features of modern graphic processing unit (GPU) and
programmable shader support, we develop an efficient hardware-accelerated
rendering algorithm of depth image-based 3D object. Surface rendering in re-
sponse of varying illumination is performed inside the vertex shader while
adaptive point splatting is performed inside the fragment shader. Experimental
results show that the rendering speed increases considerably compared with the
software-based rendering and the conventional OpenGL-based rendering
method.
