Description: The problem of image registration subsumes a number of problems and techniques in multiframe
image analysis, including the computation of optic flow (general pixel-based motion), stereo
correspondence, structure from motion, and feature tracking. We present a new registration
algorithm based on spline representations of the displacement field which can be specialized to
solve all of the above mentioned problems. In particular, we show how to compute local flow,
global (parametric) flow, rigid flow resulting from camera egomotion, and multiframe versions of
the above problems. Using a spline-based description of the flow removes the need for overlapping
correlation windows, and produces an explicit measure of the correlation between adjacent flow
estimates. We demonstrate our algorithm on multiframe image registration and the recovery of 3D
projective scene geometry. We also provide results on a number of standard motion sequences.

by spatial masking with an isotropic kernel. The masking induces spatially-smooth similarity functions
suitable for gradient-based optimization, hence, the target localization problem can be formulated using
the basin of attraction of the local maxima. We employ a metric derived from the Bhattacharyya
coefficient as similarity measure, and use the mean shift procedure to perform the optimization. In the

discussed. We describe only few of the potential applications: exploitation of background information,

Description: This paper proposes a new method of extracting and tracking
a nonrigid object moving while allowing camera movement. For object
extraction we first detect an object using watershed segmentation
technique and then extract its contour points by approximating the
boundary using the idea of feature point weighting. For object tracking
we take the contour to estimate its motion in the next frame by the
maximum likelihood method. The position of the object is estimated using
a probabilistic Hausdorff measurement while the shape variation is
modelled using a modified active contour model. The proposed method is
highly tolerant to occlusion. Because the tracking result is stable unless
an object is fully occluded during tracking, the proposed method can be
applied to various applications.

Description: This project deals with the tracking and following of single object in a sequence of frames
and the velocity of the object is determined. Algorithms are developed for improving
the image quality, segmentation, feature extraction and for deterring the velocity. The
developed algorithms are implemented and evaluated on TMS320C6416T DSP Starter
Kit (DSK). Segmentation is performed to detect the object after reducing the noise from
that scene. The object is tracked by plotting a rectangular bounding box around it in
each frame. The velocity of the object is determined by calculating the distance that the
object moved in a sequence of frames with respect to the frame rate that the video is
recorded. The algorithms developed can also be used for other applications (real time,
object classication, etc.).

Description: In this thesis we present an operational computer vision system for real-time detection and tracking of human motion. The system captures monocular video of a scene and identifies those moving objects which are characteristically human. This serves as both a proof-ofconcept and a verification of other existing algorithms for human motion detection. An approach to statistical modeling of motion developed by Y. Song is coupled with a preprocessing stage of image segmentation and point feature tracking. This design allows a system that is robust with respect to occlusion, clutter, and extraneous motion. The results of experiments with the system indicate the ability to minimize both false detections and missed detections.
